Charter costs

What a charter week costs

The weekly rate on each yacht is the starting point, not the full picture. Here is what sits on top, so there are no surprises in the quote.

The charter fee

The weekly rate shown on each yacht is the charter fee. It covers the yacht and her crew for the week. Rates change with the season and the yacht's location, so I always confirm the figure for your dates.

APA

The Advance Provisioning Allowance is paid before the charter and covers the running costs of your week: fuel, food, drinks and berthing. For motor yachts it is usually about 30–40% of the charter fee in the Mediterranean and 25–35% in the Caribbean.

The captain keeps a full account of every expense, and anything unspent is returned to you.

VAT

VAT depends on the country you charter in and the route you take, so it varies from one week to the next. I confirm the exact figure for your charter before you sign anything.

Crew gratuity

A gratuity for the crew is at your discretion, given at the end of the week. It is commonly 5–15% of the charter fee in the Mediterranean, 15–20% in the Caribbean.

The quote

When I send you options, each one shows the full picture for your dates: charter fee, APA, VAT and anything else that applies, such as delivery fees when a yacht has to travel to your starting port. No surprises later.
